At True North Acupuncture we believe that building a good foundation is essential for creating a lifetime of good health. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine work best as preventative medicines. The earlier you incorporate healthy lifestyle practices into your and your child’s routines, the fewer medications, invasive procedures and future ailments you will have to experience.
Children of all ages, from infancy to young adulthood, can be effectively treated by acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. A common concern is that your child will be afraid of the needles. The beautiful thing about Chinese Medicine is that there are multiple modalities to choose from when developing a treatment strategy. Two examples of treatments not involving needles are shoni shin, and pediatric tui na.
- Shoni shin is a Japanese, non-insertion technique that uses several small instruments to gently stimulate acupuncture channels and points.
- Tui Na is a style of Chinese massage. Pediatric Tui-Na uses specific protocols to address and treat your child’s imbalance.
Most of these modalities are painless and even relaxing and fun for your child. The children are often intrigued and look forward to the visits.
In cases where the child and parent are comfortable, needles may be introduced as part of the treatment. The needles chosen are specifically suited for pediatric cases and often require minimal, if any, retention time.
An important component to your child’s visit will be education. This can include anything from dietary advice to the teaching of hands-on techniques that are easy to use at home.
Like adults, children can benefit enormously from acupuncture. Many of the common conditions we treat include:
- Seasonal Allergies
- Digestive Disorders
- Developmental Irregularities
- And Many More!!
We would be happy to answer any other questions or concerns you may have prior to your child’s first visit.
